WINTER COLOR is a colorful winter landscape painting featuring a century barn overlooking a snowy valley. A crisp winter sunset behind a winter-weary back-country barn is the main feature of this vibrant image. I admit, the colors were more in my imagination than in the actual scene but often a luminous sunset can make winter white explode into glorious color.
Although this old dilapidated barn, the subject of my watercolor painting, looks like it will not see another spring, ablaze in the glory of a magnificent winter sunset the sad structure is revitalized. Backlit by the sun, the tired old barn appears almost in silhouette and casts a long shadow across the snow-covered hill. A few panes of cracked broken out glass still cling to makeshift window frames as they reflect the brilliant evening snow. A rickety leaning snow fence, hastily erected in preparation for winter blizards that frequent open farmland in our northern climate, is testament to the harsh environmental conditions that have contributed to the barn's deterioration.
