WILD AND FREE, a powerful and energetic equine oil on canvas painting of a dapple gray stallion running wild is one I felt compelled to paint. It is inspired by the beauty of the wild and free horses of the western plains and is my interpretaion of Wild West Art in my contemporary style of realistic subject combined with impressionistic background to suggest movement. The horse is spooked by an approaching storm and highlighted by a sliver of sunlight. A bold contrasting palette of vibrant white, rustic golden browns against a turbulent stormy sky of deep blues and blacks creates a subconscious excitement and movement as the eye tries to focus.
My composition is based on many reference photos but is purely my own creation. With similar western theme, colors and tones, it can be beautifully paired with this still life western saddle art to unify your space, the wild subject of one contrasts with the peaceful scene of the other to create drama in your contemporary decor.
With the digital application of some colorful artistic special effects to this original oil painting called WILD AND FREE, I created the colorful spirit horse image of dramatic contrasts called GHOSTLY ENCOUNTER which is only available as reproductions such as art prints, canvas prints, acrylic prints, etc.
