This equine painting of Millcreek Raphael, a Hanoverian stallion, was a commissioned painting. Millcreek Raphael competed very successfully in international show jumping, qualifying for the Summer Olympics in Australia in 1996 under Eric Lamaze.
When it comes to painting realistic portraits of pets and animals, nothing has revolutionized the process like the invention of the camera. The natural movement of an animal can easily be frozen in time in a photograph and the photo makes a fantastic reference of anatomical details and physical attributes of the animal while in action which would be very difficult to capture with the eye while looking at the live moving animal. With the aid of modern technology, today's artist can paint action-packed detailed images from photographs to produce contemporary realistic equine, animal and pet portraits.
Using candid spontaneous photos of your horse as a reference, I try to inject feeling, atmosphere, spirit into the painting of your treasured companion to create a stunning realistic detailed action painting in watercolor, oil on canvas or acrylic paint or as a wall mural. If you do not have a candid photo of your champion to use as reference to create a detailed action painting, I will be happy to take photos to use as reference.
