A photo of this young girl on a swing would capture every detail of the subject and her surroundings; however, the portrait painter can focus on what is important in the painting, like the eye focuses on a subject. Everything else is unimportant and leaves a blurred impression as in peripheral vision. The organic impressionist background suggests movement as do the girl's hair and T-shirt.
Like most of my action paintings of cycling action paintings, this is a hand-painted portrait from photo. To be clear, I only use photographs as reference material for my original paintings, often producing detailed pencil drawings on the canvas before I paint. My portraits are hand-painted original paintings done by looking at a photograph of the subject as if the subject were sitting in my studio. They are NOT painted over top of a mechanically reproduced photograph.
