The basic dark background behind the dainty white confimation dresses of the sweet little girls in this painting puts the emphasis on the subjects giving them an angelic quality. I painted this original portrait by using a photograph of the girls supplied by the children's family as reference. I refered to the photograph of the girls as if they were sitting in my studio, first drawing details of their faces and dresses, etc. in pencil on the canvas, then applying paint to the canvas. I began by painting details of their faces, then their hair and dresses.
