DANIEL'S STRAW HAT is an informal portrait of a happy young boy in a straw hat by portrait artist Hanne Lore Koehler. The detailed subject and obscure background keeps this informal watercolor portrait sketch light, airy and lively. This is Stephanie's brother, Daniel. (Stephanie is also in this gallery) Photos were given to me by their dad to use as reference for two commissioned watercolor portrait sketches.
Like most of my children's action paintings, this is a hand-painted portrait from photo. To be clear, I only use photographs as reference material for my original paintings, often producing detailed pencil drawings on the canvas before I paint. My portraits are hand-painted original paintings done by looking at a photograph of the subject as if the subject were sitting in my studio.
