Armed with baseball mitt, ball and bat the little boy in this watercolor painting fell asleep in the doorway while waiting for the rain to stop so he could go out and play. His new Labrador Retriever puppy has also fallen asleep at his side. Both seem unaware that the sun has come out in the meantime. An umbrella drying on the front porch, the drenched raincoat hanging on the doorknob, little puddles and muddy footprints on the hardwood floor are evidence that the rain had been fun for awhile.
I composed this painting using my imagination and a number of different photos as reference. The basic scene and natural lighting, the antique farmhouse door and copper umbrella stand came from a photo that I took of the elegant front entrance of the home belonging to my friend and neighbour.
