Painting Of Boys On Skateboards
I painted this action watercolor painting of two boys and their imaginary dog blasting down the sidewalk on skateboards for my story book for children called MY BROTHER AND I (written and illustrated by Hanne Lore Koehler). This story chronicles the sports and activities that two brothers enjoy together through summer and winter as they grow up. Written in first person singular from the point of view of one of the boys, the story is told in rhyme with easy flowing rhythm. Like most children, the boys have a special wish for a pet which, for now, lives in their imagination. Featured in this watercolor painting are the boys skate boarding with their imaginary dog.
We are very thankful to have two wonderful grandsons upon whom this story has been based and who I used as models for the characters in the story. It has been wonderful to watch them grow up, not only as brothers but also as best friends. The dog was created from my imagination - must run in the family!
As for the freestyle skateboarding tricks shown in this painting: Spins, flips and Ollie (a jump where the front wheels of the board leave the ground first). The dog is performing an aerial whereby he flies through the air holding the board.
