Playing dress-up in mom's tired dresses and out-dated high heeled shoes with costume jewelry and fancy hats, these little girls have decided to open a lemonade stand for thirsty summer customers. The dog realizes that they are wearing the wrong shoes and delivers a running shoe. The girls are too busy to pay attention.
Thinking back to my own childhood, I remember many a hot summer day when my friends and I lamented, "there's nothing to do!" Invariably, one of our mothers would suggest a lemonade stand or playing dressup. This watercolor painting of three little girls dressed in their mothers' old dresses and selling lemonade from an old card table with wobbley pull-out legs is based on my own experience. Such fun we had pretending! There were always customers - if not real, then in our imaginations.
