Scuba Diving Painting

From the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean presented in this watercolor painting to the bright reds, greens and purples of the incredible underwater eco-system of the Coral Reef, the spectacular exotic beauty of marine life and Coral formations drifting slowly before you can be very mesmerizing. Often called "rainforests of the sea", coral reefs are most commonly found at shallow depths in tropical waters.
Such shallow reefs are a snorkeler's delight. Snorkeling equipment which consists of a diving mask, a breathing tube called a snorkel and swimfins, allows the shallow (generally 3 to 12 feet) undersea explorer to observe underwater attractions for extended periods of time with relatively little effort. For deeper reef exploration, scuba equipment which basically consists of a scuba tank of compressed air for breathing, swimfins, diving mask and diving belt is required. "SCUBA" (an acronym for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus) diving equipment facilitates such fascinating exploration as cave diving, wreck diving, ice diving and deep diving.
For this original watercolor painting I used photos taken by my client as reference. Obviously, on-site or plein air painting was out of the question for this scene.
