Whitewater Canoeing Painting
I have tried to capture the excitement of the moment experienced by these explorers of today's wilderness adventure in this watercolor painting. Tension is reflected in the faces of these eager adventurers as they maneuver through wild sprays of water around dangerous boulder outcroppings. Giant explosions of white water that collides with determined boulders are reflected in the wet canoe. When faced with sudden rapids on the Voyageur Route, tense concentration and balance is required to keep the canoe upright.
It is easy to imagine the perils experienced by early explorers with their canoes laden with the season's catch of furs headed for the Trading Post. Yet, when the adrenalin rush has set in and the rapids are successfully conquered, it is easy the understand the attraction of early seventeenth century adventurers like the Coureurs des Bois and Les Voyageurs to explore the land, to experience the freedom of a seemingly endless wilderness and to face new challenges and adventures with determination, perseverance and tenacity.
