White Water Kayak Painting
When the North American Glaciers receded millions of years ago, they had carved out a rugged landscape and left behind a deluge of savage waters to which many of today's wilderness adventurers are drawn. One such spectacular spot is The Minden Wild Water Preserve in the Haliburton Highlands district of Ontario where most of my reference photos were shot. It is an incredibly beautiful area where the wild waters of the Gull river wind through the forest and tumble over boulders.
Bucking, twisting and thundering down the white waters of the Gull River at the Wild Water Preserve can add a real adrenalin rush to your kayaking experience. This 800 m long, Class 11 to 1V world class slalom course attracts paddlers from around the world who want to learn, practice, or hone their skills. The Kayak Roll is one of the first techniques to learn when kayaking. If a kayaker is upended, a twist of the hips and upward push with the paddle will get him right side up - the Kayak Roll.
