This is an oil painting by my dad, Otto Werner (1923 - 1991) of the Grand River done from high on a cliff look-out in Cressman's Woods near Kitchener, Ontario. This spot was just minutes from my childhood home. I remember looking forward to Sunday afternoon family walks through the woods. It was always an adventure - from little nature discoveries like acorns to grand spectacles like this autumn look-out scene atop a ridge. Even today, the smell of autumn leaves always brings back those glorious memories of kicking up colorful leaves and playing hide-and-seek among the trees.
