Dawn reveals a couple of walnut trees in silhouette through the heavy October morning mist that hovers over the Grand River. Sometimes the mist is so thick down in our valley, the rest of the world just disappears. As I stand in awe of the silent morning beauty, there is a sudden thud on the ground next to me...then another...then again. I realize that those walnuts are beginning to fall and I had better move away from that walnut grove before I get bopped!
Walnuts are beautiful trees but messy. It's a good thing there are plenty of squirrels to eat those nuts!
