Skiing Painting
Mogul skiing is a type of freestyle skiing where skiers perform tricks, jumps and incredible turns while remaining in the fall line (an imaginary line that combines the steepest pitch and most direct line, from top to bottom, of any slope). Skiers absorb the impact of the bumps by bending at the knees and hips. In Olympic competition, mogul skiers ski down a mountain through and over a field of moguls taking air twice on the way down. They are judged on technique, speed, quality and difficulty of their two aerial maneuvers.
In this watercolor painting, I tried to express the enthusiasm, the passion, the energy of Austrian-American skier, Avital Carroll by creating the swirling snow spiral background to mimic the appearance of a galaxy in outer space. My watercolor technique was instinctive, impulsive, free-spirited in my attempt to create a vivacious watercolor painting that mirrors the power and emotion experienced by the skier.
