Figure Skater Painting
Competitive figure skating involves the completion of a variety of required elements. In this painting, I have tried to portray the agility, flexibility, balance, strength and endurance necessary for Olympic competition as this graceful skater performs a flawless passionate routine.
The four Olympic Figure Skating disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. In senior-level ladies' singles competition, skaters generally perform two programs (short and long) in which individual skaters perform jumps, spins, step sequences, spirals, and other elements in their programs and are marked on their technical skills, degree of difficulty of elements and perfomance by a panel of judges. Major competitions generally conclude with exhibition galas, in which the top skaters perform non-competitive programs. Many skaters, both during and after their competitive careers, also skate in ice shows which run during the competitive season and the off-season. The spectacle of lights on the performers during ice shows adds to the excitment and drama.
