"White Magic" and "Whispering Tracks" were printed as art cards
and used as Chirstmas cards by the Canadian Olympic Association.
The thrill of shooting through untouched powder over a pristine mountain ridge gives you a definite feeling of exhilaration and freedom. It produces an irrefutable adrenaline rush and the knowledge that if you can survive this jump you can conquer the mountain and the world. This is the moment, the feeling of magic that I have tried to convey in this watercolor painting of an anonymous skier. I am equally excited to paint a skier or ski scene as a sports wall mural.
Alpine skiers (downhill skiers) may prefer to enjoy this winter sport in less controlled environments; this practice is referred to as ski touring, backcountry skiing, or extreme skiing. Skiers can be transported to a mountain top by helicopter and ski down the mountain through a variety of natural conditions. Heli-skiing is essentially about skiing in a natural, albeit highly-selected environment particularly powder snow, but also long descents, natural terrain contours and features, smooth corn snow, old-growth tree glades, and steep slopes. The degree of extreme skiing depends on the route chosen by the daring thrill-seeking skillful skier.
