My mom had the most gorgeous rose garden with all kinds of glorious colors and fragrances. She delighted in each new bud that graced her garden and appreciated its special beauty as it blossomed; but she never knew (or cared to know) its name. She loved it for what it was - not for what it was named. My watercolor collection of roses is a tribute to her love and appreciation of this magnificent flower. Although the colors vary from one painting to another, I have kept my rose paintings to the same size and square format so that they can be hung in a colorful group. Like my mom, I will leave their names to the experts.
My mom loved roses and always enjoyed her fragrant rose garden. Here are a few samples of her favorite ones. Roses always remind me of her. One whiff and I am instantly transported to her garden and can see her gentle smile.
Whenever I see yellow roses, it always brings back happy memories of dancing around the kitchen with my mom and dad when I was six-years-old to Mitch Miller's chorus as they sang "The Yellow Rose of Texas". Here are the lyrics to this wonderful song:
