This watercolor landscape painting depicts a scene of Lake Joseph, one of the larger lakes of thousands in the Muskoka Lakes District. It is one of the most popular summer get-away spots in Ontario. Studded with lakes, cliffs, rocks and forest, this magnificent scenic area offers an abundance of fishing, boating, swimming, waterskiing and many more fun activities. This is a summer scene typical of cottage country - Muskoka, Haliburton, Huntsville and Gravenhurst in Ontario where the rugged beauty of the Pre-Cambrian Shield is ever visible.
Lake Joseph is located in Seguin Township, Ontario. Ringed by many cottages, boat houses and docks of Muskoka chairs (the Canadian version of Adirondack chairs), Lake Joseph is connected to Lake Rosseau through the narrows at Port Sandfield and the Joseph River. Located in The Muskoka Lakes Region on the Canadian Shield it is marked with outcrops of igneous rock and evergreen trees and dotted by many small islands, some of them inhabited. Although inland from both Lake Huron's Georgian Bay and Lake Simcoe, the township contains many Muskoka Lakes, the largest being Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph.
