This watercolor painting of a garden view from the inside of a potting shed has a romantic quality to it. The old shed door with its heart-shaped gothic arch filigree stained glass window is prominently featured in this unique Canadian spring garden scene painted by Hanne Lore Koehler. A curious kitten explores rustic watering cans, clay pots and garden tools that have been assembled to perform today's springtime chore of planting the anxious annuals sitting in the wheelbarrow on the patio and planting Gladiola bulbs and Dahlia corms that have been left to rest over winter.
This spring still life painting is actually full of life: garden tools are not perfectly placed but look as though they have toppled over in the gardener's enthusiastic haste to get started; the wind chime swaying in the spring breeze and fresh blooming flowers are full of life and movement; the exploring cat has happily disturbed the still life scene.
