"Contemporary portraiture, like today's lifestyle, is becoming less formal and rigid. Although I will happily paint the traditional style oil portrait, I prefer to paint a subject in a natural unpretentious composition. My informal portraits are characterized by impressionistic backgrounds and realistic detailed subjects. I focus on painting details of a focal point of the subject, blurring the background to create the illusion of movement just as in reality, where the eye will focus on a subject and the background becomes obscure in peripheral vision.
I specialize in painting composition. If you have a photo in which facial expression is great but you are not happy with the pose, the background, etc., I will compose the painting extracting elements from a number of different photos to your satisfaction."
