GALLERY 25
PAINTINGS BY OTTO WERNER
The paintings in this gallery were painted by my dad, Otto Werner (1923 - 1991). He was born in Burtscheid, a town in western Germany, near Aachen. It was founded in the year 997 AD by emperor Otto III and became part of the city of Aachen in 1897. My dad, Otto and his twin brother Karl were conscripted into the German army in December 1941 when they turned eighteeen. He married my mother, Christel, after WW 2 ended in 1945. I was two years old when we immigrated to Canada in 1952.
He began his own painting business in Kitchener, Ontario, painting houses to earn a living. Fine art was his passion but it did not pay the bills. Eventually, his painting business grew and he employed around twenty painters. He began to offer wall murals as a service and painted many wall murals in Ontario, including The Concordia Club in Kitchener, Hotel Waldorf in Wasaga Beach, many restaurants, businesses, and private homes. In addition, he taught fine art oil and watercolor painting at his studio. Giclee prints of select pieces are offered below. Some of his original oil paintings and watercolors are now available for purchase. Please inquire as to availability of original artwork.
