SWEET SCENTS TO SAVOR
STILL LIFE WATERCOLOR PAINTING
"This still life painting depicts an inviting sunny window after a rainfall. Feminine ribbons and lace tablecloth enhance the theme of preservation suggested by the dried flowers, pot pourri in mason canning jars and home-made scented oil. Lingering droplets of water on the window panes assemble and trickle down, gathering momentum as more droplets join the stream. Upon reflection, this is not at all a 'still' life."
WINDOW TREASURES
ORIGINAL PAINTING IS SOLD

"The deeper meaning of this cheery still life painting is not at first apparent. A wreath of dainty dried flowers lovingly hung in the window welcomes the warmth of the sun after the rain. A cold, dreary melancholy world outside is barely visible through drying rain droplets as the window pane warms with the sunshine like tears drying on a comforted cheek. The lace and porcelain displayed on the window sill symbolize the fragility of the human spirit. As the sun spills in onto the warm wood of this old farmhouse, it brings back all the happy carefree childhood memories that were made there.

"Who says you can't go home?"

MORNING DELIGHT
ORIGINAL PAINTING IS SOLD

"This cheerful still life watercolor of an open welcoming window invites us to come closer. The morning sun of this late summer day casts dappled shadows on objects that have been enticingly placed on this farmhouse window sill. The jar of preserves lovingly decorated with lace and ribbon is suggestive of the happy toil of the previous day while the pears that were not quite ready for canning yesterday are left to ripen in the morning sun. The welcoming fresh flowers in a glass jar and steamy teapot are an open invitation. The satisfaction that early morning chores have been completed is undeniable while the muffled tones of the wind chime announce that breakfast is ready!
PRESERVING THE HARVEST
ORIGINAL PAINTING IS SOLD

"This still life watercolor painting arouses our sense of smell. The open window welcomes the fresh autumn aromas into the farmhouse. The tangle of bittersweet vine has lost its leaves - only clusters of red and orange berries remain. The sweet smell of fallen leaves is evident as the gentle flutter of the lace curtain announces the arrival of a red maple leaf that has floated in on the breeze and landed next to the mason jar of home-made pear preserves. The sweet cooking smells that linger after canning peaches, pears and plum jam are inviting. One special jar has been carefully and lovingly decorated with ribbon and lace doily - a gift from the heart for a special friend."

QUIET MORNING
ORIGINAL PAINTING IS SOLD

"A rainy day in early summer is the subject of this watercolor still life painting. The mood is pensive - a time for reflection. The gentle tapping on the window pane is somehow soothing and perhaps a steaming cup of tea and home-baked cookies will comfort the soul. Be gentle with yourself on this quiet morning. The arrival of the sunshine will re-charge the spirit."

A REST FROM GARDEN CHORES
ORIGINAL PAINTING IS SOLD

"A happy day of gardening gives rise to a feeling of accomplishment, the satisfaction of a job well done and the hope that your hard work will pay off in blooms. This is a well-deserved rest. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!"

PRECIOUS MEMORIES
ORIGINAL PAINTING IS SOLD

Precious Memories, commissioned by The Alzheimer Society, is an encapsulation of visual metaphors. Through the use of symbolism, I have tried to express the importance of cherished memories and the sadness of memories lost. Fallen blossoms below a fresh cluster of Forget-me-nots, the chosen flower symbol of the Alzheimer movement, make us aware of their fleeting beauty and symbolize the elusive innocence of childhood. A photo of a child lovingly displayed reminds us that the arrival of each new generation gives birth to the past, to a panorama of childhood memories. Cherished letters, sentimentally held with a length of satin ribbon like a gift of memories, have steeped with time. The dreams that must be captured therein have long turned to memories and the memories, like the letters, have faded. There are many other visual metaphors which become apparent in the larger format detailed print.
AUTUMN AROMAS
"As autumn days grow shorter and the various greens of summer change to reds, oranges, yellows and browns, the distinctive fall aromas that come with rotting leaves bring back happy childhood memories of raking leaves for grandma and picking apples with grandpa. Remember their message:

In good time, the bad times will disappear."
