GRANDPA BOB |
"Informal portraits of adults such as this watercolor painting of a grandfather with his new grandchild in the family kitchen conjure up
a lifetime of happy memories. Even after the grandfather is gone, as the grandchild grows up, she can see the pride and love in the face of her grandpa whenever she looks at this portrait.
Formal portraits of the past were generally rigid, sterile
poses for the simple reason that a person would have to sit in one position for hours in order for the artist to capture the nuances of his subject. Today's formal photographic portraits are still based on our perceptions of those formal oil
paintings.
Just as life and technology have evolved over the past century, I believe that portrait art should also evolve, reflecting today's lifestyle and using today's technology. In my opinion, the artist with vision is the one who uses modern
technology to his advantage." |

"Contemporary portraiture, like today's lifestyle, is becoming less formal and rigid now that a subject can easily be captured in a
natural unpretentious composition with the aid of photography.
I prefer to work from good color photos but I realize they are sometimes hard to come by so I do the best I can with the photos I am given.
I can work from photos as small as
1.5" x 2" and in black-and-white to produce a colorful portrait such as was the case with the painting done posthumously shown here." |

TOM HENKE - THE TERMINATOR |
A sports action portrait such as this, not only depicts the features of the individual but reflects the essence of the athlete and
captures a cherished moment in his life.
This image is available as a signed and numbered limited edition reproduction autographed by Tom Henke, "closer" for the World Series winning Toronto Blue Jays in 1991. The original painting is also
autographed by Tom Henke. |

YOU'VE GOT IT, TOYOTA! |
On the leading edge of modern technology, Toyota took the bold step to have their president portrayed as he worked - the leader of the
team - not an unapproachable icon in a sterile office.
As a parting gift to the president of Toyota Canada, I was commissioned by TMMC to portray the president with some members of Team Toyota and the Corolla they produced. The manufacturing plant
is reflected in the car's window. |

1950's WEDDING PHOTO |
This painting was an anniversary gift from the couple's children. In order to make the proportions of the composition more pleasing, I
raised the bride and desk about 4" and lengthened the shirt cuff and jacket. The photo had faded and collected dirt. The picture in the photo was distracting and undiscernable due to flash camera glare and was omitted from the painting. The bland table
of the photo was painted with reflections to give depth to the image. |
